where do I get the latest source code?

i know that freecom don't develop the code anymore, but there are some people,
who like to do so. so why freecom don't publish them?

there is a lot of modified and unmodified software under the GPL at the firmware
(almost the entire firmware). because of this license freecom have to publish the
source codes.

i inform the FSF (Free Software Foundation) about a possible GPL violation
by freecom. now awaiting a final report on the accessibility of the source code.

there are a few OpenSourceCodes under GPL which copyright holder is the
FSF. therefore, the fsf can pursue these violations.

I wait until 24 september before I send the report to the FSF.

Hi,

i am Johannes Storm and this is a letter about a possible GPL-violation by
Freecom Technology GmbH. I have to wrote the letter because Freecom don't
publish the code of the current firmware versions for some of their products.
This firmware runs on Freecom Storage Gateway (FSG3), Datatank (DT2) and Network
Drive Pro (VT4) and consists almost entirely of free software.

The first version with unpublished code is 4.4.2 from Febuary 13th 2008. There
are alot requests to Freecom about the code by email, phone and in the official
forum:

and not least, this letter.

The support of Freecom always say that they forward the requests and the code
will be published soon, but nothing happens since over a year.
We also know from Freecom support that there is no active development anymore
on this firmware.
But because there is a active community, which develop and support themselves,
it is necessary to get the newest code for futher working on a Community Release
(http://www.openfsg.com/index.php/FSG-3_Community_Release).

This letter is to ask Freecom to publish the code and continue to do so
promptly in all subsequent versions too.
Futhermore i call on the copyright holders of the affected software to
enforce their rights.

In addition to the legal obligations, Freecom themselves would benefit by releasing the code. People are waiting to pick it up, stabilise it, improve and expand it. The product gets better as a result. And we take some of the support burden away from Freecom. Everybody wins.

C'mon, Freecom! Let it go! You won't even have to host it, I'll personally donate the space and bandwidth if needed.

Hopefully it follows next days
Software and GPL is the same and i will tell FSF and GPL-Violation.org
about GPL being fulfilled by Freecom when 4.5.0.8 is published.

What kind of training do I need to use open source programing code? Hey I want to know what kind of training will I need to use open source code from programs like Mame or Final Burn, emulators. If the rumor of the PS3 Hard Drive coming with Linux, I want to make a emulator in which people can play 4-6 player arcade games (with legal roms of course) on a TV through a PS3. I'm currently trying to get back in school to get a degree in Infomation Systems with a consentration in software, cause I want to become a game developer, but I want to start with using open source to see if I have the goods to make a good interface.

building an emulator requires LOTS of knowledge of the hardware, running system, compilers and so on.
very difficult for somebody at schooltime. no chancs for somebody with no basic knowledges of programming,...

ordinary using of opensource-code normally requires knowledge of the programming language and many
time to read all about the project (howtos, structures, best coding convensions) and often basics
with compiler (crosscompiler), autotools, makefiles, shell-scripts,...
