Attempt of rotery encoder replacement this week

Postby mrrandles » 21.06.2010, 22:40

So the navigation knob broke. the pin holding in the knob to the rotary encoder snapped off.
So thanks to this forum i found that switch channel supply spares (really good and fast delivery 4 days to get to the uk from the usa $1.70 each) - ordered 4 just encase I mess up a few in the process, and will be attempting a fix this week with a bit of help from someone with smaller hands then me :)

had to go down this route as freecom quoted me £45 to get this repaired.. ouch..
however if it goes wrong I'll just sell it for spares and repairs and maybe buy a Zalip wifi radio instead (seems a great machine for the specs and price).. its a shame as the musicpal is a great machine that they break quite easily.

Hi,

if your MusicPal is still in warranty, please contact supportuk@freecom.com for a RMA.

If the Pal is out of warranty, check this thread for more information for the replacement knob:

Thanks freecom but Its out of guarantee as ive already spoken to yourselves and I was told it would cost £45 to be repaired. But i managed to fix it without any soldering :) I'm currently creating a guide on how to do this including pictures -

I'll post it up later
